Why the harp? And more of my story……
As a Healthcare Musician, specialising in the harp, I am passionate about the power of music to help us have a stronger sense of positive connection to our world. After COVID in Victoria, as a secondary school teacher, I was concerned about students not being able to self regulate and wanted to provide a service where structured live playing of the harp, responding in the moment (drawing on my music as therapy studies) would assist students to develop useful mindfulness processes. Added to a good number of years in the classroom teaching English, Philosophy and Classroom Music, I felt that my experience and good rapport with students and staff, could let me make a difference. I have also completed my Meditation Teaching qualifications ( non religious) in recent times, focussing on easily accessible down to earth processes and focussing on trauma informed practices. I have also worked with and developed curriculum and programs in the areas of gifted and talented, entrepreneurship and design thinking.
Why the harp?
The harp is not only beautiful to hear - its resonance has been shown in scientific studies to support relaxation, focus and emotional regulation.
It is an ancient instrument that has been used throughout the ages for healing, mental health and enjoyment. Whether used for mindfulness, creativity or healing, the harp provides a rare and memorable experience for participants and supervisors/teachers, alike.
